We have extensive school grounds with two hard surface playground areas with markings for a variety of activities. These provide plenty of space for outdoor games, and the timber trail offers additional play opportunities during break and lunchtimes. Our garden area is equipped with a seating are, picnic benches and a small pond. In addition we have an extensive woodland are which can be used as an additional outdoor classroom to enhance the learning. |

The Wild Wood In 1987 about 3,000 trees were planted in this area; but for many years the site was not managed and became very overgrown. In 2002, with the help of the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) the school began to care for the woodland, open up areas as teaching spaces, plant wild flowers, remove and replace unsuitable tree species and make use of the area as an additional teaching space. Funding for the project came from various sources including – The Forestry Commission, The Environment Agency and The Tree Council. The viewing and teaching platforms were constructed by The Millennium Volunteers, a group of students in their gap year. This is a major project for the school and undoubtedly the most important contributors to its success have been the parents and friends who over the past few years, have helped on annual clearance days, and with laying paths and planting, and continue to provide this help with regular maintenance. |
